Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: My grandmother owned her own salon and it inspired me. I would always do all my friends hair for formal dances and proms starting at a young age.

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what's your role?
A: I've been at Jordan Thomas for 3 years. I am a stylist that loves to specialize in color/corrective color.

Q: What accomplishments of yours are you most proud of?
A: I am proud of all the education I got at a young age. Working with L'Oreal Professionnel for 5 years enabled me to travel and meet stylists all over the country and share ideas with them.

Q: If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would it be?
A: I couldn't imagine doing anything else! I have been around and in the industry for so long I just fell in love.

Q: What advice can you offer someone wanting to start in your field?
A: The more education you get the better! Trends are always changing and you have to stay on top of them.

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: I entered this industry mostly because of my mom. I was always around the salon when i was little. I like to talk to people and im good at making people feel and look good so this was the job for me!!

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what's your role?
A: I have been at Jordan Thomas since 1998 as a shampoo girl then i got my license on April 26, 2001.

Q: What accomplishments of yours are you most proud?
A: The accomplishments I'm most proud of is the training & education with the salon that I've done through all the years. Just making people look and feel good make me happy and proud
every day.

Q: If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would it be?
A: I really dont see myself doing anything else but if I had to
choose I would open a small store with fresh foods that I would make. I would have fun little odds & ends to sell as well.

Q: What advice can you offer someone wanting to start in your field?
A: My advice for someone wanting to start in this industry would be to get as much education under your belt as possible. Take classes, watch people's work, always be a team player
AND ALWAYS BE NICE!!!

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: I always thought it would be fun to work by candlelight and chill music all while helping people to relax and de-stress.  After exploring college, I decided to follow my real dream and I became a massage therapist.

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what's your role?
A: I have been a massage therapist at Jordan Thomas for two years.

Q: What accomplishments of yours are you most proud?
A: It feels really good every time a client rebooks a massage with me, because of the service I gave!

Q: If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would it be?
A: I would be a nurse. I just love helping people!

Q: What advice can you offer someone wanting to start in your field?
A: Go for it! Becoming a massage therapist was by far one of the best things I could have ever done for myself.

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: I have been a client of Jordan Thomas for the past four years. I always enjoyed the people at the salon and the fun and creative atmosphere. During a visit, I told my stylist Terry that I was ready to re-enter the work force (after raising two sons) and that I would really enjoy working at such a great place.

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what's your role?
A: I’ve been at Jordan Thomas for one year. I currently serve in two roles, one as a client care coordinator and also as the coordinator of product inventory.

Q: What accomplishments of yours are you most proud?
A: I consider my greatest achievement to be raising my two wonderful sons. It has been such a joy to watch them grow into such fine young men.

Q: If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would it be?
A: Baking is one of my passions. I have a treasured collection of family recipes that have been handed down from generations. I would love to open up a small, specialty bakery where I could sell these delicious cakes and pies.

Q: What advice can you offer someone wanting to start in your field?
A: I would tell people who are starting in this field that it’s important to always make people feel valued and special. People come to a salon for an “experience” as well as a service. I want each client to feel important. My goal is to have clients leaving the salon happy and feeling as if we’ve made their day!

Q: How did I enter the industry?
A: I've always had an interest in hair and fashion but I had my children young in life (five of them) I put my energy into them first, then at 42 I went to hair school at Robert Paul academy - something that was just for me.

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas?
A: Four months short of five years!

Q: What accomplishments of yours are you most proud?
A: What accomplishments are you most proud? 1. Raising five amazing kids; 2. Having a full book at one of the top 200 salons in the country, that's huge to me!

Q: If you could do anything other than what you are doing what would it be?
A: Travel! I love to see new places and meet new people.

Q: What advice can you offer someone wanting to start in your field?
A: 1. Keep a positive attitude about always learning because you can never know enough; 2. Love people; 3. Have fun!

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: I have always had an interest in esthetics. After high school I convinced my parents that a four year college was not right for me. Soon after I attended Von Lee International School of Esthetics and became certified as an esthetician. While working as an esthetician I apprenticed to become certified as a nail technician as well.

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what's your role?
A: I have been with Jordan Thomas for one year and nine months. My role here is to provide clients with outstanding spa services and to educate them on caring for their skin.

Q: What accomplishments of yours are you most proud?
A: My most proud accomplishment would have to be my daughter. Though she is young it has been a rewarding experience molding her into the little person she has become.

Q: If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would it be?
A: If I wasn't an esthetician I would be a stylist. I love the cosmetology industry so much that I would still have my hand in it some way or another!

Q: What advice can you offer someone wanting to start in your field?
A: The best advice I can give is to remember it is always about the client!

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: Since I was little my family has always been in the hair business and we all loved it.

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what's your role?
A: I have been at Jordan Thomas for 10 years; my role is shampooing and assisting the people of Harford County look gorgeous.

Q: What accomplishments of yours are you most proud?
A: I am so proud of having a beautiful family with three kids and husband, also coming to work every day which has helped me be more positive and to care for people.

Q: If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would it be?
A: It would be to own an Argentinean boutique of clothes or my own Italian coffee shop.

Q: What advice can you offer someone wanting to start in your field?
A: I would say to do everything you do with love, to work with energy to get the best experience and always follow your dreams.

A: I have been with Jordan Thomas for six and a half years. My current role is as stylist and manager.

Q: What accomplishments of yours are you most proud?
A: Working at Jordan Thomas! When I started shampooing 16 years ago, I would watch the other stylists and think, “I hope I can be that busy, that talented and make people look that great!” Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be doing all this at such a great salon with such a wonderful group of women.

Q: If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would it be?
A: When I was a little girl I always wanted to be a nurse, if I wasn’t going to be styling hair.

Q: What advice can you offer someone wanting to start in your field?
A: Learn all you can! Starting off as a shampoo tech is the best first hand experience. You get to see all aspects of the business.

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: I first entered this industry as a shampoo tech, about two years ago I realized that cosmetology was the field of work that I wanted to get into. I love the atmosphere and having the chance to be creative.

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what's your role?
A: I have been working at Jordan Thomas since 2005 as a shampoo tech.

Q: What accomplishments of yours are you most proud?
A: The accomplishment that I am most proud of is graduating beauty school, not only graduating but being the first out of my group to do so. I can't say it was the easiest year of my life, but in the end it was all worth it.

Q: If you could do anything other than what you are doing, what would it be?
A: If I could do anything other then what I'm doing right now I would have to say that I'd love to be a baker. Much like cosmetology you need to be very creative with your work, your always learning new things and techniques.

Q: What advice can you offer someone wanting to start in your field?
A: Some words that I can offer to someone wanting to start in this profession are to always be confident in everything you do; when your confident in yourself other will be confident in you too. Also, love what you do and never stop learning. In this line of work there is no such thing as "knowing everything" or being too creative, the more you allow yourself to learn the further you will be able to take your career.

A: When I was sixteen I decided for sure that I wanted to become a hair stylist. So right after I graduated high school I went to cosmetology school.

A: I have been working at the salon for almost two years, although I have been a hair stylist for over eight years.

Q: What is your passion/favorite part of your job?
A: Although I love cutting and coloring hair, I especially love being able to talk with all my clients, both new and clients I have known for years.

Q: What is a quirky/fun fact about you?
A: When I was in hair school the teachers had a hard time showing me how to do things because I am left handed.

A: I have worked at Jordan Thomas for 11 years. I am a stylist and team player!

Q: What is your passion/favorite part of your job?
A: My favorite part of my job is working with my second family everyday. I love learning new trends and making clients feel fabulous!

A: Aside from being a stylist, I am also an artist. I paint murals and faux design.

A: When my son graduated high school I found myself with some extra time even though I was working full time for a computer company in Towson. I was sitting in the salon getting my haircut and was informed that the front desk needed help. I worked part time for a while and eventually received the position I have now.

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what’s your role?
A: I have been with Jordan Thomas for 5 years. I am the manager of our front desk coordinators and handle any administrative/office issues.

Q: What is your passion/favorite part of your job?
A: There are so many things I love about my job! I love working with the public. We have so many great people that come in the salon. It’s great talking with them and hearing about their lives. Working with the women of Jordan Thomas is amazing! We are not just coworkers, we are friends and family! We work hard, but have a lot of fun! It also helps when you have an awesome woman like Terry to work for!

Q: What is a quirky/fun fact about you?
A: I love wine!

November — Mindy Waters, Nail Technician/Nail Manager

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: I was always interested in the industry. After having my daughter, I decided to go to school to do nails so I could have a job that was in a social atmosphere, while also allowing me to spend time with my daughter. I now have been doing nails for 10 years and have made a career and many great friends!

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what’s your role?
A: I have been at Jordan Thomas for four years as a nail tech and now manage the nail department. I have fun every day with the women I work with and our clients.

Q: What is your passion/favorite part of your job?
A: I love meeting new people, being part of my client’s lives that have been coming to me for years and keeping up with the newest trends and ideas in the industry. Every day in the nail department is like a girls night out! You can never laugh too much!

Q: What is a quirky/fun fact about you?
A: I enjoy sharing fun, crazy stories about my life!

October — LaDon Hinchy, Stylist

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: One day I was job hunting and my dad told me that I had to go to school. I didn’t think college was for me, so cosmetology seemed like fun. From inheriting my mom’s love for hair and makeup, it came easy and it was fun!

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what’s your role?
A: I’ve been at Jordan Thomas seven years this coming February, working as a stylist. In my training, I learned about all types of hair and services, including makeup and nails.

Q: What is your passion/favorite part of your job?
A: I love everything about my job. I wish I could take care of everyone, no matter the time or day. My passion is to have everyone I touch walk away happy. I hope to always create beautiful hair walking out of the salon.

Q: What is a quirky/fun fact about you?
A: That is a loaded question! My life is full of quirky, fun facts (ha ha)! My journey in life has taught me to try and have fun everyday, and live my life to it’s fullest.

September — Lindsay Smith, Client Care Coordinator

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: I knew a few of the girls that worked at Jordan Thomas and I heard it was a great place to work. I love that there is always change and new and exciting things to learn in the beauty industry and the perks aren’t bad either!

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what’s your role?
A: I’ve been at Jordan Thomas for five years and I’m a Client Care Coordinator!

Q: What is your passion/favorite part of your job?
A: I love the people I work with and the clients that come to the salon. Everyday I get to meet new people and I love the daily interaction with others. Being able to see the change from when someone walks in the door to when they leave is so exciting!

Q: What is a quirky/fun fact about you?
A: I LOVE football and have season tickets to the Ravens games. I tend to get loud while watching and my six-year-old son usually has to tell me to be quiet!

August — Marianne Markopoulos, Stylist

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: When I was a junior in high school, I took cosmetology as an elective. I loved the class so much that I continued on through my senior year acquiring my license and my diploma simultaneously. I’ve been in this industry for 30 years and I believe that my purpose in life has been to help others see the beauty within themselves, shining through the character of their own style.

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what’s your role?
A: I’ve been with the salon 8 1/2 years as a hairstylist and day-maker!

Q: What is your passion/favorite part of your job?
A: I love all areas of my job. I can be as creative or conservative as my client and I care to be, with every form of style there is to be had. In this industry there is something new and exciting everyday!

Q: What is a quirky/fun fact about you?
A: I used to compete in the Florida State Hairdressing competitions, back in the eighties. One year I won first place with a hairstyle that looked like the lead singer of the band “Flock of Seagulls”. I’m so glad the styles have dramatically changed since then!

Q: How did you enter the industry?
A: I had been a client at Jordan Thomas and having my hair and nails done. Everyone was so friendly and nice, I thought it would be a nice place to work and make new friends.

Q: How long have you been at Jordan Thomas and what’s your role?
A: I have been at Jordan Thomas for nine years and I serve guests as a client care coordinator.

Q: What is your passion/favorite part of your job?
A: Meeting and greeting the guest. I like making the guest happy by getting them on the schedule with their favorite stylist, nail tech or esthetician.

Q: What is a quirky/fun fact about you?
A: I like to be pampered and everyone calls me the salon diva!

June — Karen Tagmyer, Nail Technician and Makeup Artist

When Karen's son started kindergarten, she decided it was the perfect time to move forward with her career and enrolled in the Fame School for Nails. She loved getting manicures, so why not give them! After school, Karen started at Jordan Thomas, focusing on nail treatments, manicures, pedicures and artificial nails.

After seven years, Karen continues to live by the motto, “it’s your time to be gorgeous,” and also offers makeup consultations to her clients to enhance their natural beauty. Working with makeup and nails allows Karen to interact with clients day-in and day-out — something she would consider the biggest pleasure of her work.

Just remember to come prepared for a chuckle when you sit down with Karen because she always entertains and keeps everyone laughing around the salon!
